Moving boxes — FAQs
How many boxes do I need to move house?
As a rough guide: a 1-bed flat needs around 25 boxes, a 2-bed house around 45, a 3-bed around 60, and a 4-bed 80 or more. Use the calculator above for a mix tailored to your home and belongings.
How many boxes for a 2-bed house?
Around 45 in total — roughly 12 small/book boxes, 18 medium, 10 large and a few XL. Put heavy items like books and kitchenware in small boxes so they stay liftable, and light bulky items like bedding and duvets in large or XL boxes.
When should I order moving boxes?
Order two to three weeks before your move so you can pack non-essentials early. Buying in bulk ahead of time is cheaper than a last-minute rush, and it spreads the packing out.
Single or double wall boxes for moving?
Single wall is fine for most household items. Use double wall for heavy or fragile loads such as books, crockery and tools. Our comparison currently covers single wall boxes across UK suppliers.
